Save the small things
A note about a funny moment, a book or a familiar place can make it easier to start talking. Keep a short private list as the week goes along. Not every conversation needs to be a major update.
Allow for different days
Two people can arrive at the same call with very different amounts of energy and time. Ask whether it is a good moment for a practical question or a longer conversation. Agree on a flexible fallback when a planned call is not possible.
Choose what stays private
Share personal details through channels appropriate to the information. Before posting a photograph or a story involving someone else, ask whether they are comfortable with it. Avoid public location and schedule details that do not need to be shared.
